Antonina Kulmasova is a Russian figurative painter based in Glasgow. Having graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2020, Kulmasova continues to paint from her home studio. Her work revolves around the female body and she studies the ways in which its expression can be potrayed through paint. By slowly stripping away colour and any excessive, unnecessary detail in a photograph, she explores her subject in terms of placement and presence within its space. Through the use of oil paints, she addresses the relationship between the layered painting technique and body language, as well as the personal signifance of the figure to Kulmasova herself.
